Pauline was excellent. The tour was originally designed for kids, but she adjusted seamlessly when it turned out to be just adults. She has a deep knowledge of Montmartre and does a great job bringing the neighborhood’s artistic history to life through the stories of the people who lived and worked there. If you’ve already done the Musée d’Orsay, this tour is the perfect complement. Seeing the works of artists like Renoir, Van Gogh, and others in the museum, and then walking the streets where they lived, worked, and socialized, makes the whole period click. She also provides helpful context for Sacré-Cœur—placing the church in the political and cultural context of its construction and explaining how it fits into the story of Montmartre. It’s a useful perspective that helps you see the building as part of the neighborhood’s history rather than just another landmark.
