Notre-Dame and Gothic Paris Tour for Kids

Unlock the Mysteries of Gothic Paris with Your Family

The Finer Details
As you walk through the historic heart of Paris, stone comes alive. Gargoyles become guardians, soaring vaults feel impossibly light, and everyday details reveal how medieval Parisians understood faith, power, and the world around them. With an expert guide skilled at engaging young minds, children are encouraged to observe closely, imagine freely, and ask questions—while adults enjoy a thoughtful introduction to Gothic art and architecture.

This family-focused tour invites you to step into the Middle Ages through stories carved in stone and colored in glass. At Notre-Dame de Paris, children learn how builders made walls disappear into light, why strange creatures watch from above, and how a cathedral could feel like both a puzzle and a storybook.

The journey continues beyond the cathedral with one of two equally evocative windows into medieval life. Some visitors explore the vast halls and hidden corners of the Conciergerie, where kings once lived and prisoners later waited, discovering how the same Gothic style could serve both power and punishment. Other visitors explore the Musée de Cluny, where tapestries, stained glass, and everyday objects bring the Middle Ages down to a human scale, revealing what life may have felt like for children growing up in medieval Paris.

Woven together with storytelling and discovery, this tour offers families a shared cultural experience. One that leaves children seeing Paris not just as a beautiful city, but as a place filled with secrets, symbols, and stories waiting to be uncovered.

Choose this tour if…

  • You enjoy seeing a city through the eyes of its history—finding secret carvings, gargoyles, and tales tucked into every corner.
  • You want to spark curiosity in children while exploring one of the world’s most iconic cathedrals.
  • You want to share with your child the story of Notre-Dame’s recent fire and restoration, showing how a city and its people came together to preserve history and rebuild a beloved landmark.

Route Details

Begin by stepping into medieval Paris, exploring how Gothic architecture transformed the city. From the Latin Quarter, you’ll spot pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and windows that pour light like colored streams—details that make buildings feel almost alive.
At Notre-Dame de Paris, your guide turns observation into a playful discovery. You’ll decode the characters hidden in the cathedral’s stone, from kings and saints to mischievous gargoyles, and see how flying buttresses help the walls soar. Step inside to feel the scale and light that made Notre-Dame a wonder of its time.
Next, continue to one of two sites, each offering a different adventure depending on the day.

  • The Conciergerie invites you into vast Gothic halls once filled with royal ceremonies, then down into the quieter cells where prisoners awaited their fate, bringing history to life through stories of courage, intrigue, and mystery.

  • The Musée de Cluny reveals the everyday side of medieval life. Here, tapestries, stained glass, and curious objects transform history into a hands-on experience, showing how children and families lived, learned, and played in the Middle Ages.

By the end of your journey, you’ll be able to spot Gothic features wherever you go, and you’ll leave with a head full of stories, secrets, and wonders that make Notre-Dame and medieval Paris feel vividly alive.

Doina gave a thoughtful and engaging introduction to Notre-Dame and the medieval history of the area. She’s clearly very knowledgeable and does a great job making the material approachable and interesting for everyone. Overall, an excellent tour and an enjoyable way to explore the history around the cathedral.

This was our third and final tour with Marie. We are so sad for it to end but will be forever grateful. The boys are thrilled to have a friend in France. :) Thank you for the education, care and kindness you showed all of us. We adore you and the unbelievable history you shared with us. You and your country are extraordinary.

We enjoyed visiting the Sainte-Chapelle and Notre Dame. We did not, however, visit all of the sites mentioned on the tour description. The Conciergerie we looked at from outside, standing on the bridge. Our tour guide was not feeling well that day, and it was hard for her to speak for longer periods. I think we might have gotten more out of our tour if we had had more and more in-depth explanations, which she seemed to think might be too much for the kids to absorb. There were also stretches of us following her with no commentary, which seemed unusual, as Context guides are usually very friendly. We did learn about the sites visited, however. I was happy to be able to tour the inside of Notre Dame with a guide.
