Christophe Michellod

Guide & Consultant in Kanazawa
About Christophe

Christophe moved to Japan in 2015, following a career at UNESCO as a heritage management project officer. He first studied philosophy before completing a Master’s degree in cultural anthropology, specialising in Japanese culture and in the Ainu community of Hokkaido. This academic background has given him both a rigorous and sensitive understanding of Japan.

Since settling in Japan, he has worked as a consultant for numerous private companies as well as public institutions, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, contributing to regional revitalisation projects through the development of sustainable tourism initiatives.

A travel consultant and local guide in Kanazawa and the wider Hokuriku region, Christophe shares his passion for Japanese history, architecture, craftsmanship and the arts, as well as gastronomy and contemporary social issues. He practises several traditional Japanese arts, notably kyudo (Japanese archery) and the tea ceremony, and is also a keen photographer and knowledgeable collector of antiques, fine crafts and design objects.

His extensive travels across many countries, broad cultural interests and natural empathy enable him to reveal the many facets of Japanese culture, offering valuable insights and keys to understanding the Land of the Rising Sun. A passionate lover of literature, cinema, photography, craftsmanship, art, antiques and gastronomy, he will introduce you to a Japan that is both surprising and captivating.
