Seeing Ostea through an archeologist’s eyes is an incredibly rich experience.
Livia is an absolutely superb guide. To begin with, she organized the day perfectly. It was ideal that we stopped first at the Museum of the High Middle Ages, then at the newly reopened Roman Ship Museum, and thus when we arrived at Ostia Antica we could stay as long as we wanted without having to be conscious of leaving time for those two museums afterward. But of course most important is Livia’s brilliance as a scholar of ancient Rome, the passion and excitement with which she shared her knowledge and explained what we were seeing. She is truly amazing in bringing together such depth of knowledge with a capacity to make history come alive. She is also such a thoughtful and kind person, always making sure that we were comfortable, caring about our well-being. It was a wonderful day and we wouldn’t have done anything differently.
