Itinerary Details

Your day will begin with an exciting traveling experience to bring you to meet your driver at the Naples train station. Get ready to step into a place frozen in time and be immersed in the ruins of one of the most fascinating Ancient Roman cities. A trained archaeologist or classical historian will lead you through the well-preserved streets of Pompeii to learn about the wildly complex history, culture, and society of this ancient city.

During your walk, your guide will share their expert insight into the different types of buildings and structures found here such as shops, baths, and amphitheaters that were part of everyday life two thousand years ago. You will step foot into the private homes of the wealthy and the poor to observe the construction and decor, and most notably view the magnificent frescoes of the Villa of the Mysteries.

Along with your expert guide, you will unravel the mysteries of the past and gain insight into the final moments of this once-prosperous city before it was lost to antiquity. You may choose to view the casts of people and animals caught in the eruption, providing a chilling reminder of the disaster that struck Pompeii.

By the end of our tour, your guide will have painted a picture of the complex social, political, and economic world in which Roman citizens lived. Your group will leave with a newfound connection to the people who lived in Ancient Pompeii and their unforgettable stories.

How does the car service work?

The private car service will pick you up at the Naples train station 30 minutes before the beginning of the tour. The ride out to Pompeii will take approximately 30 minutes. You will meet your guide directly in Pompeii at the start time of the tour. If you have any questions about arriving in Naples, please feel free to contact us.

Can I request a pickup or drop-off outside of Naples Train Station?

Yes! We can arrange pickups and drop-offs from locations such as Naples City Center, the Port, Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento in most cases. Whether you need a different pickup point or a drop-off location other than the Naples train station, just let our team know when booking. We’ll confirm availability and make the necessary arrangements for you.

Are the first-class train tickets included in this excursion?

No. First-class train tickets to and from Naples are not included in the price of this excursion and must be added on separately during checkout if desired.

What are skip-the-line tickets?

For this tour, your tickets are pre-purchased which allows you to skip the ticket office line upon arrival at the venue. You may still have to wait in a security line or in a line to have your pre-purchased ticket scanned.

How does traveling from Rome to Naples work?

You have three options for purchasing train tickets:

Purchase tickets from an outside vendor (travel agency, directly at any Italian train station, etc.). If pursuing this option, please remove the tickets during booking.
Leave in your cart the appropriate train tickets when you place your order with us.
Add a note to the tour request (in the "Special Interests" box) that you want train tickets (and class type) and we'll add them to your order for you.

Riccardo was exceptional!! He provided a deep understanding of what life was like in Pompeii before the eruption. He explained the meaning of the decor and colors in the homes that have been restored as much as possible. Riccardo was very pleasant and we enjoyed learning so much from him.
