Very knowledgeable tour guide. His pride and passion for Montreal is contagious.

My friend, Charlotte and I had a short visit to Montreal early December (2.5 days) and we were so glad we had made plans for a tour - Introduction to Montreal! We learned so much from Louis, our tour guide! We have been talking about the history of the founding of Montreal, the currency and the port history all day long after our tour! So much history we learned from Louis has inspired us to dig a bit deeper on our own now! And we appreciated that Louis checked in via text the evening prior to our tour to introduce himself to us and to also move our meeting place so we were not waiting outside in the cold weather! That was SO appreciated! Loved the tour and Louis’s depth of knowledge, and humor! What a fun time!! Debbie

Montreal Tours

Montreal sits on an island in the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, where its strategic location helped shape the city’s development as a trading hub in North America. Founded in 1642 as Ville-Marie, the settlement began as a French missionary outpost before growing into one of the most important centers of commerce in New France. Its river access connected Indigenous trade networks with European markets, shaping the city’s cultural and economic foundations.

Today, Montreal blends French heritage with modern North American urban life. Historic streets, grand churches, and lively markets reflect centuries of cultural exchange and migration. As the largest French-speaking city in North America, Montreal maintains a distinctive identity shaped by language, food, art, and architecture. Context Travel’s Montreal tours are led by historians and cultural experts who help travelers understand how colonial history, immigration, and modern creativity shaped this dynamic Canadian city.
