Royal Palace of Madrid Tour

Explore the majestic residence of the Spanish Royal Family

The Finer Details
The Royal Palace of Madrid is one of only a handful of official Heads of State residences open to the general public. Your tour begins in front of the palace façade, where you will admire the majestic building designed by various architects, including Giovanni Battista Sacchetti and Francesco Sabatini. A testament to Spain’s rich heritage, you will notice elements of Baroque and Neoclassical architectural styles that punctuate the palace exterior and beg you to explore further.

Please note: you may encounter long queues at ticket booths before accessing the Palace, given a change in the organization of the entry procedures.

Stepping inside, you will be transported by opulent decorations, intricate artwork, and a series of captivating rooms that embody the country’s artistic and cultural legacy. Rooms of the palace are open to the public on a staggered basis, so you may have the chance to visit the Throne Room, the Hall of Columns, or perhaps even the Crown Room. As you make your way around the palace, you will learn of state ceremonies and royal events that have left their mark on Spanish history. You will also visit the armory, which houses a significant collection of historical weapons and armor, providing insight into Spain’s military past.

Following your visit to the Royal Palace interiors, your expert will accompany you on a short discovery of the Campo del Moro Gardens. Named after the Moorish forces that camped here in the 12th century, the expansive landscape presents a perfect backdrop to wrap up your visit and ask any lingering questions before you part ways.

We had an excellent tour with Carlos at the Royal Palace of Madrid. He is knowledgeable, engaging, and exceptionally well-prepared, with a gift for connecting Spanish history to the broader European story in a way that feels clear and conversational. He paced the tour perfectly and welcomed questions throughout. We also visited the cathedral next to the palace, which added important context and made the experience feel complete. One of the best guided tours we’ve had. Highly recommend Carlos.

Andrea’s extensive knowledge of Spain’s very colorful history along with her ability to convey that knowledge made for a very enjoyable tour. We would highly recommend her!!!

You cannot visit the palace without a guide, and Carlos is your guy! I did this tour with my young children and we came in with very little knowledge of the history of Spain. Carlos did an excellent job of starting with a brief overview that was both interesting for an adult while keeping the children engaged. It’s very easy to info dump in a tour like this while explaining the kings and queens, when they ruled, what time period the beautiful art and furnishing were from, etc… Carlos is a pro! You will never feel overwhelmed while leaving feeling you didn’t miss a thing. This is a must see while in Madrid and even better with a guide that is passionate about the subject matter. As an added bonus, prior to our tour Carlos sent us restaurant recommendations near our hotel and helpful directions to meet him. Context is lucky to have him as is anyone that is on one of his tours!
