Madrid Highlights Tour for Kids

Take your family through the historic center of Madrid with a family-friendly expert

The Finer Details
Close your eyes and imagine Madrid a century ago. Two centuries. Five centuries! What was it like when this city was a Moorish fort? How did the city transform when it became the seat of the Castilian Crown? During this 2.5-hour Madrid for Kids private tour, we'll seek the answers to these questions and immerse ourselves in the history of the city, visiting the famed Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol. Our guides make Madrid's history come alive and teach children how to see a city through a new lens.

Tour Itinerary

Beginning near the Opera House in central Madrid, our tour will take us back through time. We will start by learning about the founding of Madrid and discovering the vestiges of the Muslim settlement—its 9th-century walls—where we’ll consider life during these primeval years and conceptualize how the walls might have been built. You will spend some time at the exterior of the refined Royal Palace, where you’ll consider the young princes and princesses who inhabited the castle.

You will also visit the Plaza Mayor, where you may imagine the various uses of the square over the centuries—it held markets, bullfights, and even soccer matches. You’ll envision what was sold in the shops that hide under the archways. You will make your way through the small back streets to the city’s current central square, Puerta del Sol, where you’ll also have a chance to talk about Madrid as it is today.

With a sweet ending to a day of Madrid's history coming alive for the whole family, your kids will leave the tour with a new wonder for Madrid's current landscape and how it has evolved throughout its centuries of history.

We had a fantastic experience with Adam as our guide in Madrid. He struck the perfect balance for our whole group — somehow managing to completely captivate our kids while also going toe-to-toe with my father on Madrid history (and my father spent part of his childhood here, so that’s no small feat!). Adam was engaging, upbeat, and incredibly knowledgeable without ever feeling scripted. He brought the city to life with stories and context that made everything feel personal and memorable. What really stood out was his kindness — when my son got cold, Adam immediately offered him his own coat. That level of thoughtfulness says everything. We truly enjoyed every minute and would recommend him without hesitation.

Very much enjoyed our walking tour around Madrid with Carlos. He was informative and personable and kept our two boys (7 and 10) entertained as well. Learned a lot and it was a great way to get acclimated.

We had a wonderful tour with Carlos! He is so knowledgeable and kind, and we particularly appreciated his ability to quickly get our young kids (5 and 6) engaged from the very beginning. We felt like we were able to see a lot during our time with Carlos and walked away with thoughtful suggestions on how to spend the rest of our trip. We would absolutely take a tour with him again our next time in Madrid and highly recommend him!
