Your experience begins with private transport from your accommodation in central Kraków. A driver will bring you on the 90-minute journey to the Auschwitz Memorial, where your expert guide will be waiting to begin the tour.

The visit begins at Auschwitz I, a former military barracks repurposed by the Nazis to imprison Polish political detainees. It was here that plans were developed for the expansion of the camp system, culminating in the construction of Auschwitz II–Birkenau, the primary site of mass extermination.

At this stage, we lay the historical foundation—examining the rise of the Nazi regime, the development of its ideology, and how Auschwitz evolved from a prison into a center for industrialized genocide.

Passing through the infamous gate bearing the words Arbeit macht frei ("Work Sets You Free"), you’ll spend the morning exploring the barracks, learning about prisoner conditions, viewing archival photographs, and hearing survivor testimonies. Auschwitz I also served as the site of early experiments in mass murder. Here, you’ll see one of the only remaining gas chambers and crematoria—prototypes for the larger-scale extermination later implemented at Birkenau.

Following an informal lunch break, you’ll make the short journey with your expert and driver to Auschwitz II–Birkenau. The contrast between the two sites is striking. The vastness of Birkenau, with its haunting entrance gate and railway tracks, is intensely sobering. Though much of the site was destroyed by the Nazis in the final days of the war, powerful traces remain. You’ll visit reconstructed barracks to gain perspective on the inhumane living conditions endured by prisoners, and spend time memorializing those who perished.

We organize a round-trip private car service from your accommodation in central Kraków. It is about an hour and a half drive to the memorial. The car service is included in the price of the tour. Allow about 7.5 hours for the day with the round-trip transportation; your time on site with your guide will be about 4.5 hours.

We will break for lunch during the tour. There is an on-site cafe, or you may choose to bring a picnic lunch. The cost of lunch is not included in the price of the tour.

We understand that some of our guests may have mobility concerns, and we want to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience throughout your tour. If there are any accessibility concerns that your tour guide will need to be aware of, please let our team know at the time of booking.

Access to the site is restricted, but the museum is slowly making accommodations. There is extensive information here. 

Guests may enter the grounds with an assistance dog on presentation of a certificate of appropriate training and a current vaccination booklet. The dog must be led on a leash.
